The S.H. Cowell Foundation believes that developing strong leadership is essential for improving communities and shaping a brighter future for children, youth and families. Because we value personal and professional growth, we support an array of ongoing development opportunities for our grantees.
Specifically, Cowell encourages the organizations we fund, and the individuals who direct them, to strengthen their institutional capacity and enhance their leadership skills in two ways:
- We award modest leadership development grants to:
- help individuals in leadership positions obtain the professional guidance, training and support necessary to be stronger and more engaged leaders;
- strengthen the effectiveness of nonprofit organizations
- We host periodic convenings to foster group learning and build connections between and among grantee organizations.
| By awarding responsive leadership development grants and hosting convenings, we strive to provide our grantees with opportunities to develop new skills, remain engaged in their work, promote healthy leadership transitions, and reflect on their successes to ensure the long term well-being of their organizations and communities. |

If you are a current or recent grantee working in a Cowell-supported community, we encourage you to speak with your program officer about the possibility of a leadership development grant.
